Tales from the Silo: National Film Week ’86

“Tales from the Silo” is a reoccurring feature that showcases archival documents and ephemera from the history of The Cinematheque. Beyond our film reference library and West Coast film archive, the items found here offer a peek into the vast amount of materials that go unnoticed and forgotten, until a surprise find (or re-find).
Today’s found feature is a program guide from National Film Week ’86, “an official Vancouver Centennial Project sponsored by Canadian Filmmakers’ Distribution West, Cineworks Independent Filmmakers’ Society and Pacific Cinematheque Pacifique. All are registered, non-profit societies which comprise the new Pacific Cine Centre”. National Film Week ’86 was the official opening event of the Pacific Cine Centre (current home of The Cinematheque).
As we celebrate the life and work of experimental filmmaker David Rimmer for the 2024 edition of National Canadian Film Day, here is a look back at the program entries for a selection of his films presented during National Film Week ’86.
