News from the Executive Director

The Cinematheque has always been committed to providing the best possible experience for our audiences. We take pride in presenting a diverse range of films from around the world, and in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who enters.

That’s why we are excited to be able to close for two months this spring to renovate our dated washroom spaces. These changes are part of our ongoing efforts to make our facility more accessible and welcoming to all members of our community.

The renovation will involve significant changes, including the installation of new fixtures, sinks, and stalls, as well as changes to the layout and design of the washroom space itself to be fully accessible and gender-neutral. We’re working closely with our architects and designer to ensure that the new washrooms are accessible, safe, and welcoming for all. Oh, and they’ll look pretty darn spiffy, too.

During the closure, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for our reopening, including programming for May and June, strategic planning with our staff and board, and taking this opportunity to make some fun improvements to our lobby as well.

We know you are missing seeing films at The Cinematheque (we are too!), and we thank you for your patience during this closure period. We believe that these changes are an important step forward for our organization, and we hope that you’ll join us in supporting this effort to create a more inclusive and accessible space for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you back to The Cinematheque in May!

UPDATE

Title Here

As a non-profit film organization and cinema, we at The Cinematheque have always been committed to providing the best possible experience for our audiences. We take pride in presenting a diverse range of films from around the world, and in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

That's why we're excited to announce that we’re closing temporarily this spring—from March to April 2023—for a renovation of our washrooms. These changes are part of our ongoing efforts to make our facility more accessible and welcoming to all members of our community.

The renovation will involve significant changes, including the installation of new fixtures, sinks, and stalls, as well as changes to the layout and design of the washrooms themselves. We're working closely with experts in accessible design to ensure that the new washrooms meet the needs of all members of our community, including those with mobility impairments and other disabilities.

In recent years, there has been increasing recognition of the need for gender-neutral washrooms in public spaces. This is particularly important in a cultural institution like ours, where many people may not identify as male or female, or may feel uncomfortable using a washroom that is designated for a specific gender. By making our washrooms more inclusive, we hope to create a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone who visits The Cinematheque.

During the closure, we'll be working hard behind the scenes to prepare for our reopening. We'll be announcing our upcoming programming and events, and taking this opportunity to refresh our lobby as well.

We know that any kind of renovation can be disruptive, and we apologize for any inconvenience that this temporary closure may cause. But we believe that these changes are an important step forward for our organization, and we hope that you'll join us in supporting this effort to create a more inclusive and accessible space for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you back to The Cinematheque in May!
