In Person: Morgan Fisher

Film of all kinds is unified by its material facts.”

Morgan Fisher

DIM Cinema is pleased to welcome legendary experimental filmmaker Morgan Fisher in person for a program of five foundational films on 16mm. Fisher’s films playfully dismantle the cinematic apparatus to uncover the hidden labour, mechanics, and syntax of moving images. With works that are both conceptually complex and utterly transparent, he reveals his cinephilic affection and dry sense of humour. Featuring Production Stills (1970), a newly restored print of Picture and Sound Rushes (1973), Projection Instructions (1976), which turns the projectionist into the star of the film, Standard Gauge (1984), which Fisher once described as, among other things, 16mm’s revenge on 35mm,” and the silent ( ) (2003), this program explores the theory and practice, art and industry, and production and exhibition of film itself.

Post-screening conversation with Morgan Fisher, moderated by Iris Film Collective members Ariel Kirk-Gushowaty and Lindsay McIntyre.
