Content in her tidy, spotless home and predictable life, 63-year-old Britt-Marie (played brilliantly by legendary Swedish actress Pernilla August) is a creature of habit, routine, and order. Making dinners, doing laundry, and looking after her husband — who, when not away on business, spends much of his time watching soccer on television — keeps her happy and fulfils her modest dreams. That is, until she discovers her husband is having an affair. Shattered, she decides to leave him, find a job, and start over. The only employment immediately available is as a youth leader at a recreation center in Borg, located in a remote and struggling small town. This job includes coaching a soccer team of 10-year-olds. Knowing nothing about soccer, coaching, or children, Britt-Marie steels herself and resolves to do a life makeover, and fast! An endearing tale of one woman’s resiliency, Britt-Marie Was Here is entertaining (and convincing) proof that life can begin again at any age.
