Our Stories to Tell

In Endless Cookie, Seth and Pete Scriver’s kooky, grotesquely animated documentary, a rich oral history poetically blended with oddball comedy invites surprising political revelations … This is the cinematic translation of a community.”

Robert Daniels, The New York Times

Nine years in the making, this experimental animated documentary paints a colourful family portrait of two half-brothers, one Indigenous and one White. Peter Scriver is from Shamattawa First Nation, an isolated Cree community in Northern Manitoba that is only connected to the rest of the province by ice roads during the winter. Peter’s brother Seth (Asphalt Watches) travels thousands of kilometers from Toronto to make their documentary. Rather than bringing his video camera, he brings his audio recorder to honour traditional oral storytelling methods. Recorded sporadically in Shamattawa, and brought to life by Seth’s hand-drawn animation, their stories span from 1980s Toronto to present day, reflecting on colonialism, racism, ceremony, and family. They are often interrupted by Peter’s rambunctious family, including nine kids and ten dogs—but rather than distracting from the narratives, they add to it. This documentary is a beautiful depiction of family connection, intensified by hilarious illustrations.

Canadian Screen Awards 2026

It is a picture infused with love—both for family, and for the creative act (the film took nearly a decade to complete). It is also a generous invitation into the heart of a sprawling extended family.”
