Much like a written or spoken language, the visual language of film is a collection of signs which in narrative film come together to tell a story. These signs are not just the words we hear spoken by characters, but also the various kinds of shots, lighting styles, editing techniques, sound design, and storytelling techniques that filmmakers have at their disposal. This workshop introduces the concepts and implications of the film shot and camera angles, providing participants with the basics of film language and fundamental storytelling. Hands-on digital filmmaking and technical training will allow you to experience a simple exercise in visual storytelling while learning the basic cinematic language of film.
