April 21–May 4, 2021
National Canadian Film Day 2021
The Cinematheque is pleased to mark National Canadian Film Day 2021 with two free virtual programs of exceptional Canadian cinema. Writer-director Terrance Odette’s affecting feature Heater (1999), set in Winnipeg and winner of two prizes for Canadian filmmaking at VIFF, will be presented in a new 4K restoration. B.C. artist Ellie Epp’s avant-garde landmark Trapline (1976), also in a new restoration, and Korean-Canadian filmmaker Caroline So Jung Lee’s poetic documentary At the Bottom of the Sea (2019), named Best Canadian Short at VIFF, will screen together in a program honouring innovation and experimentation.
Both free programs will be available for two weeks starting on April 21—National Canadian Film Day 2021.
