Welcome to Intertitles
The Cinematheque
March 14, 2023
Hello and welcome to The Cinematheque’s inaugural post for our new blog. The idea of hosting a blog on our website has been percolating for some time and the temporary closure has offered us the opportunity to realize this project. We’re very happy to be able to present to you—Intertitles!
Why Intertitles?
After some group brainstorming of names (everything from The Equine, to Rack Focus, to Letters from Vancouver) we settled on Intertitles since the definition of the word (a piece of text inserted into a film to provide context or other information) is exactly what we want this blog to be—a place to include extra information that doesn’t quite fit in with our regular programming notes but is still of interest to you, our film-loving audience.
What can you expect to find here?
We’ll be posting some perennial content such as the “Ask Al” column, which will answer all of your burning projectionist questions. We’ll shine a spotlight on one of our amazing volunteers each month (because we have the best volunteers). Archival documents and ephemera from the history of The Cinematheque will pop up on the regular in our “Tales from the Silo” column. And we’ll even share some insights into film editing in our “Trailers, Tips & Tools” column. Alongside these fun outtakes will be regular messages from our executive director (including renovation and non-renovation content), updates on what our Learning & Outreach department are up to, and the occasional listicle to get you thinking about your next movie marathon.
We’re glad you’re here, thanks for coming, and happy reading!
