Hu Jie’s Though I Am Gone
December 4 (Monday) 1:00 pm
Celebrated UK film scholar David Martin-Jones (University of Glasgow) will be visiting The Cinematheque on Monday, December 4th for a free screening and discussion of Hu Jie’s 2006 documentary Though I Am Gone. This event is brought to you by the same team that organized our Cinema Thinks the World project last year, and is sponsored by the UBC Public Humanities Hub and DocUBC. Though I Am Gone is about Bian Zhongyun, the vice principal of a girls’ middle school who was beaten to death by her students during the 1966 Red August of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The screening will be accompanied by Professor Martin-Jones’ talk, provisionally entitled “Documenting the Cold War State of Exception: How ‘Exceptional’ is Hu Jie’s Though I Am Gone?”
All are welcome, no registration required!
