Prolific Quebecois auteur Robert Morin’s 15th feature is a stunner—simultaneously an intense psychological thriller about a seemingly normal man’s descent into madness and a daring formal exercise in German Expressionism, evoking the films of Wiene, Murnau, and Lang. In a towering performance, Christian Bégin plays Dr. Louis Richard, a successful plastic surgeon and family man with all the material trappings of an haute-bourgeois lifestyle. But on the day an unhappy patient threatens to sue him, Louis’s carefully ordered life begins to fall apart. At home, his wife’s demands for increasing independence and the discovery of his son’s hidden stash of misogynistic rap music reinforces the downward spiral. Shot (by Morin himself) in a series of highly stylized long takes, Infiltration is “a vertiginous dive into the darkest depths of the human soul … and a fascinating feature film.” (Isabelle Hontebeyrie, Le Journal de Montréal).
