Lind Prize Filmmaking Workshop
Interested in the work of local emerging artists? Want to make a short film inspired by the Lind Prize exhibition at The Polygon Gallery? This free five-session workshop, running weekly on Thursdays from October 14 – November 18, will introduce participants to the basics of digital movie making, resulting in original short film projects that will be presented during a special event at The Polygon Gallery. No previous experience necessary!
Using smartphones and free video editing software, each participant will make their own original short film exploring questions and themes raised by the artworks at the Lind Prize exhibition.
Format
This is a hybrid workshop hosted remotely via Zoom and other online resources (templates, instructional videos, handouts). The introductory session and the final screening event will take place on-site at The Polygon Gallery.
This workshop is available to anyone ages 16+ interested in making a short film project inspired by The Polygon Gallery’s Lind Prize exhibition. Guided by experts from The Cinematheque and The Polygon Gallery, participants will independently work through a series of activities, culminating in a 1–3 minute video that will be screened at The Polygon in December 2021.
Participants should expect to devote a few hours each week on their film project, in addition to the 90 minute weekly Zoom call. Facilitators from The Cinematheque will be available to answer questions and troubleshoot problems.
Required Equipment
Participants need a smartphone with a working camera and a computer capable of downloading and running Filmora X video editor. Participants will receive instructions and login information to use Filmora free of charge. If access to a computer or smartphone is a barrier, please get in touch with The Cinematheque at learn@thecinematheque.ca.
